The Problem That Obsesses Us
The hospitality sector represents 7.8% of European GDP. More than 1.8 million restaurants operate in the EU. Yet most still manage their menus with last-century tools: static PDFs, photos of laminated paper, or websites that cost 500 euros to update every time a price changes.
Translations are done with Google Translate (with results ranging from comical to offensive). Allergens are marked "when there is time". Dish photos are nonexistent or from stock libraries. And owners spend hours each week on administrative tasks that generate zero value.
We saw this problem firsthand. Our founder spent 12 years as a professional chef in restaurants across Europe before moving into software development. That unique combination of culinary and technological experience is what makes IAMenu not "another digital menu SaaS", but a tool designed BY hospitality professionals FOR hospitality professionals.
From the Kitchen to Code
IAMenu (formerly RokaMenu) was born in 2024 when its founder, after 12 years in professional fine dining kitchens and 6 years developing software, decided to solve the problem he experienced every day: digital tools for restaurants were terrible.
They were not just bad from a technical standpoint. They were bad because they were designed by people who had never worked in a kitchen. They did not understand that a chef needs to update the menu at 3 PM with service about to start. They did not understand that a daily special changes every 24 hours. They did not understand that "ask the waiter" is not a valid solution for allergens.
